AN ELDERLY southeast Queensland couple face a $1700 fine for flying the Aussie flag on Anzac Day while their neighbour has been given the green light to display a Swastika.

Why? Because apparently the national flag makes too much noise when it flutters in the wind while the Nazi symbol hangs silently, the Gold Coast Bulletin reports.

Doreen and Patrick Hinks have been handed an official letter by the Gold Coast City Council saying they need to stop the noise following several complaints by their neighbour.

When the couple made a counter-complaint against their neighbour for displaying a Swastika on Anzac Day they were told he was within his rights.
