Fifth anniversary of the first Canterbury earthquake in Sept 2010…

Westende Jewellers building on the corner or Manchester and Worcester St became an iconic image of the destruction.

September 4, 2010, started us on a collective journey but for every one of us the experience has been different.

Five years ago Cantabrians suffered the rudest awakening.

We were dragged from sleep by a low rumbling deep beneath our homes. It drove us from our beds in search of safety, fumbling in the dark for our loved ones.

As the rumble turned to vigorous and prolonged shaking our possessions rained from shelves and chimneys fell. We shared a collective shock and terror.
