On Thursday, May 26, Bill English will deliver his eighth Budget as Finance Minister.
After eight Budgets, it is increasingly clear that under National, New Zealand is heading in the wrong direction.
There are 40,000 more people out of work than when National took office. Home ownership rates are at their lowest in 64 years. Education costs are rising while our schools tumble down the international rankings. And $1.7 billion has been cut from our health system.
The reality is, National does not have a plan to fix these problems. They are increasingly focused on the interests of the few at the top, while families in the middle struggle to get ahead and we see the emergence of inexcusable poverty in New Zealand.
