Is another September election on the cards? Or could it be even earlier?
National Party president Peter Goodfellow dropped a very big hint when he announced the date of next year’s annual conference in Wellington.
Goodfellow confirmed the party would next gather in Wellington on the weekend of June 24-25 – just “a few months” before the next election.
That would appear to firm up the likelihood of a date with the polls in September, in line with the 2014 election which was held September 20. But it could also signal an August election – insiders say a June annual conference is earlier than usual in an election year.
