Official Information Act (OIA) documents obtained by Campbell Live today reveal the Pike River Mine has been safe to enter for nearly a year now, so why the delay to finally enter the mine and try to bring home the lost 29 miners?
Campbell Live reporter Dan Parker was tonight live in Greymouth. He described how he tried five different OIA requests to retrieve these documents. Eventually their request was accepted with WorkSafe New Zealand.
“What this request tells us is that the advice that Solid Energy was given by WorkSafe and Mines Rescue, and what they told them, was that the plan to re-enter the Pike River drift, the tunnel that leads to the mine, was technically feasible,” says Mr Parker.
