The Flanders Poppy
As a local Taita resident of over 40 years I was quite sad when I learned that this local icon would close and follow other Taita landmarks into history – like the Taita Hotel and its 100 year old Pohutakawa tree. The hotel was bought by a church who arrogantly felled OUR tree.
This morning I noticed a sign outside the RSA informing the public it was up for tender. I was never a member of the RSA; but was invited to join about 20 years ago. I would have to say that the committees over the years appeared weak on promotion. Perhaps in hindsight the club could have become a cossie club as well?
